On Sunday 5th April 2009 there was a momentous day in the history of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. At 5pm, after a celebratory week-end of activities, the doors were closed to the public, and commencement of a £17.6 million refurbishment launched.

There will be a grand re-opening in November 2011. We look forward to welcoming all of our customers back then!
