one of the masters of the southern rhone, brusset make impeccably crafted wine that is much admired. a medium bodied red with juicy strawberry grenache fruit and the more spicy, inky syrah.

set to be one of the stars of south africa, shiraz is now beginning to make great wines in the cape. This is no exception with rich, spicy bramble and cassis fruit with touches of pepper and spice. creamily textured with a powerful finish.

gigondas, “le grand montmirail”, domaine brusset, france
a remarkable producer of wines that are currently very much “en vogue”. a brilliant vintage produced a strong, powerful wine that requires substantial meat dishes to balance it. savoury, concentrated and very long, this is a stunning wine.

chateauneuf du pape, “les combes d’arnevels”, france
classic, medium bodied chateauneuf with a richly textured palate of spicy violet and cherry fruit overlaid with a little subtle oak ageing.

shiraz grenache, brave faces, two hands, australia
back in the 1980's, when australian chardonnay was all the rage, many vineyard owners were encouraged to "grub up" their old shiraz and grenache vines in favour of white grapes. some old timers held out resolutely and braves faces is a tribute to them. hugely concentrated but with a luscious, strawberries and cream palate, this is an immensely enjoyable style.
