Imposing city centre venue, offering a unique and flexible setting

The Assembly Rooms has been at the very heart of the city's social life since first opening its doors in January 1787. Originally used for 'Assemblies' (public dances), the diverse range of events held in the building since has secured its place at the centre of the cultural and business life of the city.

The Assembly Rooms has a distinguished history with notable visitors such as Chopin and Dickens and in recent years JK Rowling and Ian Rankin. The building has also played host to many royal visits inculding HRH The Queen in 1999.

With four function rooms available for hire, all are elegantly proportioned with spectacular chandeliers, intricate plasterwork and mirrors. The Assembly Rooms provide accommodation for seminars, conferences, exhibitions, receptions, dinners, parties, weddings, (including a licence for civil marriage ceremonies) in fact almost any event you wish to host.
