Responsible Purchasing

Here at Heritage Portfolio, quality is our priority.  Still, we are understand that the impact of our purchases can be felt thousands of miles away, economically, socially, and environmentally.  That’s why we are dedicated to providing the finest, responsibly sourced products.   To ensure ethical environmental practices all along our supply chain, we have a strict supplier screening process, to make certain all of the suppliers are ethically and environmentally compatible with our values.  We strive to purchase local, fair-trade and sustainably sourced products.

Local

We support our fellow Scottish businesses and the local economy, so we strive to buy local whenever possible.  It means our products travel less to reach us – maximising freshness and minimising our carbon footprint – keeping our clients and the environment happy.  Buying local also means that we are focusing on seasonal products. Café Modern One at the Gallery of Modern Art uses products grown meters away in the garden – you can’t get more local than that! Some of our suppliers include Stewarts Brewing and Shortbread House of Edinburgh.

Ethical

We recognise the environmental, economic and social impact that our purchases have – even if the impact is felt in other countries, so we strive to purchase fair-trade products.  Our fair-trade purchases support the development of thriving farming and worker communities, empowering the local communities.  Some of our fair-trade products include Puro Fair-Trade Coffee, Calypso Fair-Trade Apple and Orange Juice, and Tate and Lyle Fair-Trade Sugar.

Sustainable

Being in the food and beverage industry, we understand that how we get our products is just as important as where we get them.  We look for products that are created with sustainability in mind, such as using environmentally conscious packaging.  We also use sustainably sourced meats and seafood, meaning our suppliers are considerate of the ecosystem they operate in, especially in issues like overfishing and pollution.  Sustainable produce means high quality for the consumer and the environment.  For example, Inverawe Smokehouse  provides us with a range of Organic Salmon that is then transformed into delicious dishes for our guests!
