A Masquerade Ball at The Signet Library
The Signet Library was recently the setting for a spectacular masquerade ball. A sweeping red carpet and flambeaux greeted the guests on Parliament Square, and the Lower Library was transformed into the reception venue for the arrival of 240 flamboyantly costumed guests. The Upper Library was the focus of the evening’s festivities, and ‘for one night only’ our staff donned golden masks, adding to the ambiance created by our dazzling visitors.
Live music throughout the evening added to a sense of drama and intrigue, from the exquisite string quartet which played during the reception, and the masked duo of trumpeters which heralded the start of supper, to a live rock band who kept the guests dancing well beyond the midnight hour. . .
Intricate canapés were served including just podded summer peas with raddichio, haloumi and lemon and our infamous dainty beef Wellingtons, guests then enjoyed a supper of freshly cooked cones of fish & chips and dainty pitta pockets of roasted lamb with chilli dressing and yoghurt.
The Signet Library’s traditional and refined surroundings were the perfect partner to the dark opulence of this 18th century Venetian style masquerade ball.
