Behind the Lens

Here at Heritage Portfolio we are lucky enough to have a fantastic team with many hidden skills!  Abbie McCann is definitely one of those team members!

By day Abbie is one of the front of house team who greet and seat our guests at the Colonnades at the Signet Library.  By night she is a qualified photographer who works with the Heritage Portfolio marketing team to capture everything from the delicious dishes that chef creates to the spectacular venues in the company portfolio. 

Let’s hear more about our amazing Abbie…

Behind the scenes, she looks after our telephone and online bookings and our gift vouchers. She also has a touch of magic. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, Abbie will make sure a card is organised and a special dessert to make sure your day is extra special.

And of course, she is never far from her camera and is constantly creating scenes and photographing some of the fantastic images you can see on our Facebook, website and in the newspapers!

Where are you from originally?

I grew up in the Coldstream in the Borders with my brother. I studied professional photography at Abertay University in Dundee and am so proud of accomplishing my degree!

We hear that you’re making a name for yourself with your photography

Yes, I regularly supply fashion images to EB Living Magazine which focuses on East Berwickshire. I photograph weddings and other events too. I have exhibited my work and have got some fantastic feedback from other professional photographers.

Do you manage to take some time off?

I’m a creative person so I love nothing more than working on my own personal projects, visiting galleries and art exhibitions. I love sketching and painting - I can’t think of anything more relaxing. I’m also quite an active person I enjoy going for jogs and long walks. I am sure this love grew from being brought up in the countryside!

Do you have a favourite food?

Like any girl I have a ridiculous sweet tooth and enjoy anything chocolaty. Whenever I go out to a restaurant I always select my dessert first before I decide on my starter or main course. I love hearty food, good quality, nothing too fancy.

Who would be your dream dinner date?

My dream dinner party companion would have to be David Loftus. Mr Loftus is a professional photographer who works with Jamie Oliver and many other well-known chefs. He has taken all the images for Jamie’s books and website. Therefore, we would have plenty to talk about! As he photographs food, I would think he could recommend something delicious to have for dessert.  Having watched many of his YouTube videos, I almost feel I know him already. He seems quite a character – an ideal dinner date who’d make me laugh.
