We at Heritage Portfolio love a wedding! Whether it be an intimate ceremony or a wedding reception for hundreds, we’ve held brides hands when planning, orchestrated the perfect wedding breakfasts and ensured every single moment ran as perfectly as possible. So when the news of Harry and Meghan’s upcoming nuptials was released, we immediately went into Wedding Design mode. Read on for what our teams would do, and how they’ll be celebrating the Royal Wedding themselves!

Private Team

Amy and Rebekah looking fabulous and wedding ready!
Amy and Rebekah looking fabulous and wedding ready!

What will you be doing on Saturday?

Rebekah: I am the designated wedding designer for the private events team and therefore I will definitely be watching and taking notes at my Royal Wedding Brunch which I am hosting at my house for 30 guests.

Why is your venue perfect for a royal event?

Amy: Gilmerton House is the perfect Royal Wedding venue because it’s private with its own beautiful grounds so no access for paparazzi. It’s located in the beautiful East Lothian which has its own microclimate so you are guaranteed sunshine.

What do you think their first dance song will be?

Marta: We are hoping that it will be a choreographed group dance with the full family involved, however most likely to be an acoustic John Legend style love song (wouldn’t be surprised if he was there singing it himself).

What event design twist would you suggest to Harry & Meghan to make their Wedding unforgettable?

Frans: A glitter bar with glitter face paints for guests – we recently had this at a wedding and the guests had an amazing time with it and the pictures looked fab.

Signet Library

What will you be doing on Saturday?

Isla: I’ll be working at our venue making sure another beautiful wedding is going to plan!

Why is your venue perfect for a royal event?

Kirsty: The grandeur of the Signet in undeniable and this would give any royal event gravitas and a wonderfully decadent atmosphere. The Colonnades, paintings, murals and books all add to it.

What event design twist would you suggest to Harry & Meghan to make their Wedding unforgettable?

Isla: I think it would be wonderful to see some traditional activities or dances and being from Scotland, that means a ceilidh or even a more contemporary twist on like a silent disco!

Mansfield Traquair

What will you be doing on Saturday?

Louise: For the last Royal Wedding we did a ‘Best of British’ Party where everybody dressed in outfits that they thought were synonymous with Britain- we had everything from the weather to the spice girls, to The Queen herself. This year my friend is having a party at her house and everyone is to wear their wedding dresses- that’s if we can still all fit in them!

Why is your venue perfect for a royal event?

Cassie: With the stunning murals on the wall, painted by Phoebe Anna Traquair the venue has been recognised and named "a jewelled crown", therefore a perfect fitting for a royal event. Phoebe Anna Traquair was an important female figure in British Art and was one of the first women artists in Scotland to achieve professional recognition. As Meghan Markle is an advocate for woman I can imagine she would love the history behind Mansfield Traquair.

What do you think their first dance song will be?

Megan: I’m not sure what it will be, but I am sure it will be performed live by one of their very famous friends!

What event design twist would you suggest to Harry & Meghan to make their Wedding unforgettable?

Cassie: As they are quite a modern couple, a huge trend this year is to do smaller plates but more of them for the wedding breakfast, almost like a tasting menu. Rather than going with the traditional 3 course meal.

Louise: Harry did love a good old party so maybe they would bring a touch of exclusive London Nightclubbing to the wedding. Kensington roof top gardens would be a great style inspiration. They could have everything from flowers and greenery, water features and gazebos, to the famous flamingos along with a fabulous DJ, great cocktails and lighting.

Michael Kyzirakos, Hopetoun House

What will you be doing on Saturday (i.e. where will you watch it, will you be with pals or enjoying with an afternoon tea?)

I’ll be enjoying the wedding from home with my family and delicious gin and tonic.

Why is your venue perfect for a royal event?

Hopetoun is a perfect venue for hosting a royal event due to its already stellar history with majestic events and guests. Monarchs have been regular guests at Hopetoun including visits from King George IV in 1822 to our most recent visit from The Queen in September 2017.

What event design twist would you suggest to Harry & Meghan to make their Wedding unforgettable?

We’d propose an innovative and theatrical smashing dessert! Then everyone can join in and enjoy a delicious and interactive end to a delicious meal.
