The Signet Library, Edinburgh - Details
The Signet Library, situated in the very heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, is the epitome of prestigious, Georgian elegance and is home of The Society of Writers to Her Majesty’s Signet – an association of Scottish lawyers and one of the oldest professional bodies in the world.
Steeped in history, the building, with its Lower and Upper Libraries, was completed in 1822 in time for the celebrated visit to Edinburgh of King George IV, who described the Upper Library as “the finest drawing room in Europe”.
Rooms within The Signet Library
The exquisite architectural details and gallery view of the sumptuous room below make the Upper Library a wonderfully impressive setting for any event. We have produced gala dinners, product launches, drinks receptions and wedding celebrations here and it’s certainly a black tie and tiaras kind of party venue. This room can hold up to 400 guests for a reception across all types of events.
The Lower Library, with its columns, cornices, galleries and balustrades, is ideal for a drinks reception before an event in the Upper Library, it's perfect for wedding ceremonies or for aperitifs before a dinner in the Commissioners’ Room and holds up to 220 reception guests, or 70 for a banquet dinner.
The Commissioners’ Room is the perfect setting for intimate corporate client dinners and family occasions, from wedding anniversary celebrations to christening lunches. There are private dining options here for up to 40 in total.
The Seminar Room is a contemporary room with seating for 4-40 people in a variety of layouts – great for business meetings or team training sessions.
